WE ARE THE SCALPERS
"Only the Brave"

The St Finbars Scalpers Basketball Club is a not for profit organisation, run by volunteers.
Our goal is to make our community based club accessible and affordable to as many children and young adults as possible.
SCALPERS BASKETBALL
The St. Finbars Scalpers Basketball Club aims to promote the game of basketball within the local community, and encourage participation in the playing of Basketball. We seek to create an environment that promotes enjoyment, good sportsmanship, and friendship groups for children of all abilities. The St. Finbars Scalpers Club generally establish teams through friendship groups and  / or through class groups within the St. Finbars Primary School community, however this is not a team pre-requisite, and we have many teams whom have combined from all walks of life.

St. Finbars Scalpers "Only the Brave" (1991)

The St. Finbars Scalpers Basketball Club was founded in 1991. The club commenced with seventeen teams on the roster with the core of the players coming from the St. Finbars Primary School. Throughout the years the Scalpers Club has grown organically to now provide a basketball home to in excess of twenty-five passionate and
enthusiastic teams.
The club have Boys and Girls Teams participating in age groups from U9's through to Open Age. Teams play in both the Summer and Winter competitions offered by either the Mckinnon Basketball Association or the Sandringham Basketball Association.
The Club regularly establishes and fosters Junior Development Basketball programs for young players, as well as facilitating the establishment of all age Junior Basketball Teams. If you are interested in creating a team within the club, or if you have younger children (7 & 8 year olds) interested in joining a development squad with the aim to start up or join a developing team, please make contact with the Club through email via the CONTACT page of this website.

Father Lou's Influence
Father Lou Heriot was a wonderful man, exceptional priest and caring human being.  He supported all sports associated with St. Finbar's Primary School and parish and indeed, helped the 'Scalpers' out of a cash flow hole in 1999-2000.  Due to unusual circumstances, a significant shortfall in cash in the bank meant that the treasurer would have been unable to pay the registration costs of all our teams at Southern Basketball Association – which would have brought about the demise of our club.  When approached about this finance problem - without hesitation, Fr. Lou loaned our club the finance interest free and said, "Pay it back as you can".  Our Club was extremely lucky to have had such a parish priest and really only exists today because of his generosity.
